"Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose."

Results - SSG Beringin Golf Course - 26th July 2011

Small group of 7 managed the 45 minute journey to Beringin to-day. (The distance was a bit daunting for some of our elderly members)

Everyone was on time enabling us to get registered and saddled up by 07.35 am. The early Start put us 1st on the course and finished by 11.15am.

The cost for 7 players was RM 360 (RM 51.42 each)  RM 50 was collected from everyone. As many wanted to get off after the game we had a quick drink and award ceremony at the club and was on our way home by 12 .30pm.
No carry over RM!

The course as usual was in great condition apart from the greens being still wet from the overnight dew.

Stable-ford scores on the day were close together. Just one score stood out from the rest and that was from Klaus who scored a 93 for 39 points. (Bonus points were not required.)
2nd place went to Ray Funnell with his 100 for 35 points (off a 27 h/cap)

Erol gave Klaus a run for his money taking the 1st 9 with 21 points slot but then Erols game fell apart after picking up his ball after 6 shots on the par 4 10th  thinking the hole was a par 3. The hole was a  6 index which would have given Erol 1 point for his 18”  7th shot if taken.!

Positions:

1st        Klaus Kretzschmar                  93  /  39           Cut 4 to 20
2nd        Ray Funnell                             100 / 35           Cut 1 to 26

Results - Seri Selangor Golf & Country Club - 19th July 2011

A decent turnout of 11 Cannons pitched up in good time to ensure an early start ahead of a small competition.  The weather was perfect and the course as difficult as ever, which was reflected in a slew of dreadful scores.  Winner was Bernhard Romahn with gross 95 for 35 points and cut 4.  R-up was Sigi Meierbrugger with the lowest gross of the day of 92 for 34 points and cut 1.  These were the only two golfers to break 100!  And Bob Simpson chalked up the most golf with a solid 115.  The full gory details as follows:
1. Bernhard Romahn - 95/35 and cut 4.
2. Sigi Meierbrugger - 92/34 and cut 1.
3. Ian Geekie - 109/30
4. Erol Akinci - 102/28
5. Paul Hobbs - 114/27
6. Jeff Pearce - 109/23
7. Andrew Robinson - 103/22
8. Klaus Kretschmar - 108/22
9. Tony Morris - 102/20
10. Glen Wombwell - 114/18
11. Bob Simpson - 115/14
As the master chef at Seri Selangor was not in the kitchen on the day and they had run out of  Chateau Lafite, the post golf F&B was taken at Sid's Pub in TTDI - we had the place to ourselves save for a brace of office dollies and it turned out to be a rather sober and quiet event....

Next Game - Seri Selangor - 19th July 2011

Next Tuesday we will play Seri Selangor.  BE THERE BY 7.00 am SO THAT WE CAN BE FIRST IN THE QUEUE AND THE FIRST FLIGHT OFF at 7.30 am.

Post golf sustenance will NOT be taken at the club, which regrettably has just lost its coverted Michelin star.  So by way of a change we will deport ourselves to Sids in TTDI for steak pies, fish and chips and other quintessential english fayre....
Please let Andrew Robinson know asap if you will join - and this is a TP COURSE so bring your book if you still have coupons left.

Results - Templar Park Golf & Country Club - 12th July 2011

As we all know, Templer Park is a difficult track and the 16 golfers (I use the term Golfer in it's broadest sense) who ......I was going to say 'graced' but that would be a gross misrepresentation of the facts.....let's say 'took part', proved again how relatively easy most of the courses we play are. Only 5 of us broke 100 and only one of us played to his handicap. Well done that man. Barry for example managed to "blob" 13 holes; 9 on the trot! That must be a record of sorts.

Templer was in poor condition; a sad reflection on the magnificent golf course that it once was. They are trying to rejuvenate the place but it's a loosing battle I'm afraid. What a pity given the outstanding piece of real estate it occupies and the stunning back drop and only 30 mins drive from down town KL. Clearly the club facilities are underused and underfunded and one wonders how long this place will survive. Nevertheless, we will be back if only to bring ourselves back to reality....golf wise!

The winner was Glen Wombwell with 37 points and the runner-up Paul Hobbs making a rare appearance and coming in with 32 points OCB. Glen is cut 4 strokes and Paul 1 stroke. The lowest gross was 86 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf was played by Barry Cousins with 124.

Mike Smith will be away for the next 4 games so Andrew Robinson will be "deputy dog" (thank you Andrew) and will advise you of next weeks venue.

Results - Bukit Kemuning Golf & Country Club - 5th July 2011

Cannons all.
Bkt Kemuning was very dry with brick hard fairways which were rather worn in places but the greens were good and with little early traffic we were all round in good time.
We had planned at the morning gathering to take M&M at a nearby Chinese but fate intervened. Mike Smith had a hole-in-one at the 176m 2nd using a 7 wood and with money to be spent we decided to stay at the club for lunch.......and lousy it was. But what to do lah? Why can't golf clubs in Malaysia provide reasonably good grub?
With the dry conditions and the resultant long run, low scores were anticipated and so it turned out. The winner was Mike Smith with 46 points and the runner-up OCB was Glen with 39 points. I'm cut 10 strokes and Glen just the one. The lowest gross was 85 by Andrew Robinson and the most golf was shared between Glen and Ray with 98's.
The formalities took a while but the resultant RM2000 had to be spent so several tables had free M&M (most without a word of thanks) and the staff went home happy as well. The "pot" for the day; RM254, went to the float which now stands at RM643. We will have to find a way of spending some of it!
