Results - Staffield Golf Resort - 28th May 2013

Report

Weather conditions and course conditions were excellent for this Loose Cannons trophy day at Staffield. Although the greens were tricky and rather fast with difficult pin locations, causing some players 4 putts .. and dare I say even 5 putts.. but they ran true. We had a full 5 flights of 20 players with 19 players finishing …. Andrew Robinson had to unfotunately retire after 3 holes as he had "lost his grip" ….. caused by a cut in his finger from a broken wine glass …. so no surprises there.

The winner by quite a margin was Geoff McLaws with a consistent 38/38 for the 2 nines with a total gross of 76 and 46 points (cut 10) including a wonderful eagle on the par 5 9th hole on the Northern Nine. Runner up was Kevin Wiggins with a gross 87 for 40 points (cut 1).

We welcomed back to the Loose Cannon's fold, Mr Richard Moss, this being his first game post-hip replacement. He managed the 18 holes very well with his new bionic hip and no doubt he looks forward to many more games in the future.

Also of note, Bernard Rohman apparently managed to drive his buggy directly into a bunker as he drove at top speed over a mound ….. just a pity we do not have photographs or video of this incident ….. perhaps the following video may fill in this gap however ….. (hope he raked the bunker!!)

An excellent post-game lunch was enjoyed by 17 of the attendees at the Restoran Shengee in Mantin …. 15 of us had almost finished all the food when Joe Zorich and Peter Jackson strolled in looking hungry ….. due to their post game leasurely jug at the club.

Next Game - Staffield Golf Resort - 28th May 2013

We now have 5 full flights confirmed for next Tuesday at Staffield Golf Resort - if anyone else wants to play please contact Stuart Taylor by this weekend and we can add in an extra flight if required. Tee off time is 7:45am - I will request two tee boxes to tee off given the numbers. Please be there at the club by 7:20am latest.

Final flights will be announced on Monday by e-mail using a new "Randomizer" function in a spreadsheet to draw the flights so this will hopefully will provide a completely random grouping of players…… so no complaints!

Costs will be RM120 per person inclusive of green fees+buggy. No TP book applicable at Staffield. Caddies will be on a personal cost basis if required by individual players. Kevin Wiggins has kindly offered to collect the monies and assist with the registration on the Tuesday morning.

After the game we will have lunch at the usual spot in Mantin - Restoran Shengee.

Results - Bukit Kemuning Golf Resort- 21st May 2013

Report

Five flights with 18 LC's played Bukit Kemuning in slightly more drier conditions than the last expedition here. The course was in generally good shape although the greens were heavily sanded and many of them very fast making putting a challenge for most golfers. We had the pleasure of Joe Zorich returning for a visit to Malaysia who joined us and who shot a good round of 86 for 32 points.

The winner of the day was Gordon Wingate with 89 gross and 50 points (cut 14). After languishing for many weeks in the high handicap zone, so this was a well deserved win and not too soon we may add! Runner up was Allan McNicoll with a round of 96 and 43 points (cut 1). Well done Allan - first time on the role of honour list. Best gross of the day was Ted Parslow with an 81.

Post game lunch was kindly arranged by Barry Cousins at the nearby Fu Yuen Seafood Restaurant - some excellent food and appropriate quantities of liquid beverages to wash down the food. We were joined by a sprightly looking Richard Moss who promises to join us next week for his first post-hip replacement  game.

Results - Impian Golf & Country Club - 14th May 2013

Report

Two tee boxes were booked but the club decided not to honour the booking and the last 2 flights, started from the 6th, which also delayed their tee off times. Apart this small problem, everybody had a good day on this excellent course, which was in very good condition and the greens were true but played a little slow.

I had the pleasure of watching the winner, Ted Parslow play his best round of golf for many years. He only missed two greens in regulation, and was 4 under after the first 6 holes. A couple of short putts missed and his last hole the 5 th, par 5, he was still level par, off the tee, but some very bad
luck cost him a shot. His iron from the tee ran off the fairway and he had an unplayable lie, all contributed to a 2 over round , 74 . Sorry Ted you are only cut 15 points. Next week h/cap 2...!! In second place on count back , from Hans, was Kevin Wiggins with 84 for 41 points. Cut only 1.

Many thanks to Hans Berger for the vouchers he very kindly donated today, which in effect, subsidised everybody's golf and lunch today.
