Results - Kajang Hills 22nd May
We played Kajang Hill this week. Still no firm news on it's eventual demise so we should continue to play here as often as possible while it is still being well maintained. After all, it is one of the better courses available to us. There had been some overnight rain in Kajang which left the bunkers a bit wet but playable, other than that the course was in good nick.
Again this week we had the dreaded 13 registered by Monday morning but with the withdrawal of Sigi (thanks Sigi) we were back to 12 come tee time. Under clear skies we were off promptly at 8 and with few other golfers on the course we were all done by just after 12pm.
The winner was Klaus Kretzschmar with 46 points and the R/Up was Geoff McLaws with 44 points. The lowest gross was 76 by Geoff McLaws and the most golf played was 115 by Alan Holgate.
Klaus is cut 10 strokes and Geoff 1 stroke.
M&M was taken at the club with the usual mix of Japanese and Chinese dishes. Always quite good although some of the chefs creations here are 'unusual' to say the least.

Results - Staffield Golf Resort - 15th May 2012
Cannons all,
Staffield was in superb condition, especially the greens which were running true and reasonably fast. This really is a gem of a golf course and with the current mid week package, very affordable. We shall return........soon.
12 golfers had registered but a last minute withdrawal due to illness meant that only 11 LC's teed off. This was a bit of a bummer as I had bumped John Preston out at 6 o'clock yesterday evening. Sorry about that John. And with Barry straining his back with his first drive of the morning we were down to 10 after one hole. As most of us are getting older we should warm up before teeing up.
The weather was glorious and the course was not busy so everyone was round in under 4 hours.Whether it was the course or the weather or both I don't know, but some very good scores were recorded. Of note were 5 birdies each to the 2 Geoff's; Parslow & McLaws.
The winner was Mark Baker with 45 points and the R/Up was Geoff Parslow with 44 points. The lowest gross was 75 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf played was 109 by our returning member Bernhard Romain.
Mark is cut 9 strokes and Geoff 1 stroke.
The full results can be found in the attachment where the 2 Geoffs will note that their USGA handicap has tumbled down to 9 & 6 respectively resulting in Capped Handicaps of 12 for McLaws and 9 for Parslow. So you see Geoff P, having "never ever played off a double digit handicap in my life" didn't last long. 'Handicap Master' took care of that.
After the game all 10 survivors retired to Mantin to the usual Chinese and enjoyed some excellent grub washed down with an unusually large amount of the amber nectar amid some good banter. Mark generously chucked his winnings into the kitty but we still had to cough up an extra RM20 each. Having completed the whip round Bernhard then handed me RM200 as his contribution. Now I'm not sure if this was a spontaneous generous gesture to mark his return to the LC's after several months absence or whether it was intended to influence my reporting of the mornings golf. You will remember that I said "some very good scores were recorded"!!! Well, that was true BUT not everyone scored well. Bernhard shot 40 & 60 for 17 points; 14 of which were on his front 9. So there you go Bernhard, bribery will get you nowhere. But thanks again for your generosity. The money has gone into the LC coffers which now stand at RM1280. I feel a good Christmas Lunch coming on.

Results - Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club - 8th May 2012
Cannons all,
Berjaya Hills is always a test and so it proved again yesterday; a tough track made even harder by the very soft conditions with several balls plugged and lost. Please read the "Point of order" at the foot of this report. This was a pity as although it has been reasonably dry lately, the heavy downpours we have experienced in recent days in KL obviously affected Bukit Tinggi as well.
The weather however was perfect; cool and bright with crystal clear air and we were entertained by the usual troop of Gibons, heard but not seen.
The course was in fairly good condition spoilt a little by the greens that are infested with patches of cow grass and weed but there were signs that this is being treated with a herbicide so bodes well for the future.
With several regulars away and others finding it a tad too far (it's no further at 45 mins than several other courses we play) only 13 LC's started and had the course to themselves.
The winner was Simon Compton with 41 points and the R/Up was Hans Berger with 35 points. The lowest gross was 85 by Geoff Parslow and the most golf played was 124 by Alan Holgate.

After the game 10 of us went to Restoran 126 in Bukit Tinggi Village where we celebrated Andrew Robinsons recent 63rd birthday. Thanks are extended to Andrew for the Wine and to Simon for contributing his RM50 winnings to the pot due to his absence from the lunch. And coincidentally the bill came to RM311 which was exactly the amount in the kitty.
A point of order. It was reported that Ray Funnell unilaterally opted to play 'Winter Rules'. This option had not been announced before play began and therefore Ray's score, had it been in the running, would not have counted. But it does raise again the frequent question of whether to play Winter Rules ('lift, clean & place').
