Sixteen players teed off under clear skies and perfect weather conditions, very different from the last time we played this venue when play was abandoned after 5 holes. The course was in poor condition with soggy fairways and uneven and bumpy greens. We all teed off from the first, play was not quick and all the players were back in to the clubhouse by 1-15pm. The scoring was not great, with the exception of today’s winner Peter Kenyon who shot 95 for 41 points, a Stewards Enquiry is still ongoing into this remarkable fete. Runner up and best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with a score of 81 for 35 points. It was good to welcome guests Carl Wombwell and Emlyn Jones, who was so overwhelmed that he turned up for play with his shirt inside out, a good sign proving that he already possesses the attributes of a good Loose Cannon.
Lunch was taken at O & S restaurant where fifteen of us squeezed around one table, very cosy. Many thanks to Barry for booking and ordering the excellent food.
