Results - Rahman Putra - 16th June 2015

Well after a late change of venue for reasons I shall not dwell on over this email, 12 Loose Cannons made it to Rahman Putra for our weekly Tuesday game. After being promised the Lake 18 for our three flights, upon arrival at the course, all noted that the second 9 of the Lakes course was closed to morning players. 

Registration at this course has had its frustrations in the past but today, it was a virtual breeze. Aside from not being allowed to play the Lakes 9 due to no proof of handicaps under 24, oh, and our seniors receiving no benefit other than those who are also MM2H holders cos they were not Malaysian cits, oh, and the green fees being quite exxy here, and registration taking well over 20 minutes, we were all on the tee by 8.15am.

Tony and his flight finished 3 holes ahead of the next flight due to a couple of walkers somehow managing to 'cut in front' of our middle flight. However 6 of us made it to the Heng Hin Seafood Restoran for a pleasantly modest meal (quantity) and a few grogs.

Henning Therkelsen won the day with a very good gross of 84 for 40 points. Well played Henning, or "Henry" as called by Tony. 

A very close second was Iain Wise with a gross of 92 for 39 points and 21 on the back nine. The rest of the field failed to impress with no-one else in the field playing to handicap.

It was a rather wet and soggy course today at Rahman Putra making it even harder work than usual to reach the green. The greens however were in good shape although a little slow. Weather was good and we got off rather painlessly at around 8:00am from two tee boxes on the Hills 9's.

After the game 12 of us made our way to the Heng Hin Restaurant close-by to the club for a rather frustrating meal with slow/bad service and small portions leaving some Cannons rather light on the first few dishes that were scoffed by the wolves at the other end of the table. Hans Berger kindly sponsored the drinks today to celebrate his recent 200th game with Loose Cannons .... thanks very much Hans.

Results

Scores were not going to be good today and the winner playing to his handicap was Jeff Pearce with a respectable 36 points (gross of 94). Runner up was Henning Therkelsen with a gross of 85 and 35 points. Full results below:

We had 15 players for Rahman Putra with a last minute call-off from our Money-Bags, Allan McNicoll. Greg Mackley had invited 3 guests, Russell Maw, Steven Tan and Glenn Sargent, with Russell Maw being a scratch pro-golfer!

With the new issue of Loose Cannons golf shirts some players were looking rather dapper on the course today although this did not seem to improve the golf much!

We played the Hills course and conditions were good with the course demonstrating its usual tough nature with only one player playing better than handicap. Russell Maw pointed out that the greens were rather small, something I hadn't considered before. Weather was fair with thunder and rain threatening over the last 2-3 holes. We were only slightly held up by a few walkers some of who seemed to wander onto the course between flights to play a hole ... Geoff McClaws however sorted out this particular infraction rather promptly and non too subtly!

Lunch after the game was taken at the excellent Heng Hin Seafood Restaurant with Jeff Pearce pitching in for all the drinks having just celebrated the arrival of yet another grandchild - thanks Jeff ... and congratulations!

Results

The winner with a gross core of 97 and 38 points was Brian Stubbs who again is showing great form and is in no doubt due for a further handicap cut. Second place was Steven Tan (guest) with 35 points on count back from Glenn Sargent (guest) and Hans Berger who also scored 35 points. Best gross of the day was Russell Maw (guest) with a 77.

Next Game - Rahman Putra - MONDAY 12th May 2014

Next week it is a Public Holiday on Tuesday (Vesak Day) so we will play on Monday 12th May at Rahman Putra. We have the Hills Course booked for an 8:00am tee-off from 2 tee boxes. Cost will be RM150 inclusive of green fees/insurance/buggy and compulsory 1 caddy per flight (if available).

We played the Trophy game at Rahman Putra. As always the club seem incapable of controlling the starts, and as a result we teed off , only 15 minutes late.....The course had dried up well and the greens were in excellent condition, very true. The weather was cloudy and golfing conditions were very good.  

Several good rounds, but the winner was Tony Morris with 88, for 38 points. He will receive the trophy when they arrive....In second place, as his good form continues was Stuart Taylor with 89 for 36 points. 

An excellent lunch had been arranged by Tony. Thank you. He was called back to the restaurant, as there was a query with the bill, but he is still counting the profits, ... !!
